Distinction

Two of my relatives - Beverly Espy Dayries and Marilyn Espy McClendon - share the same wedding anniversary, August 25th.   This year is a big one.  Congratulations!

Black Bear Spotted!

Kade joined me on a walk yesterday - my first walk in a week. Not even halfway through the walk, we had a black bear encounter. It more than made our day!

We went back out the next day to investigate.

Queen's Lead

In my humble opinion, Freddie Mercury is/was the greatest frontman for any band, ever. I remember hearing Queen's Another One Bites The Dust on Casey Kasem's America's Top Forty; my box stereo was on the floor, in-between my bed and the wall. I would listen to Kasem doing the countdown on Sunday nights. The year this particular song made a splash in the US was probably around 1980.

Simply the greatest live Rock performance in history:  Queen playing at Live Aid in 1985.
Wembley Stadium: London.

At the Bank

w/ my brother Miles.  This was in the new addition to bank.  In fact, this office, after belonging to Jim Woods for many years, became my own in 1996.

My high school days.  Stopped by to see Dad.

Grand Canyon

In 1994, during a two-week stay in Mesa, Arizona, an Egyptian-American young lady and I rented a convertible and drove 4 hours north to the Grand Canyon. We drove to Phoenix, up to Sedona and on to Flagstaff, before driving another 60 or so miles to the South Rim.

My Bungee Jump

When I was at Samford University I met a couple of Uzbek (then Soviets) students, Timour and Ulugbek. I befriended them, and they spent lots of time around my family, especially Uncle Jim. One Spring break the four of us went to Walt Disney World in Orlando. Besides Disney, we visited Sea World and an alligator farm. Perhaps, though, the most interesting thing we did was go bungee jumping. Uncle Jim, in his mid-sixties then, stayed on the sidelines and rooted us on. Timour went first, and so there was no backing out for Ulugbek and me. Here's my bungee jump - 15 storeys high. You can hear Uncle Jim holler out, "Ride 'em cowboy!"
