I vividly remember Edith having a conversation once with Grandmother Vann in the car asking her to be observant and wave to people as they drove through bustling downtown Headland. Grandmother Vann, though she was a beautiful and warm lady, had the tendency to sit straight up with good posture when riding in a car and look straight ahead as if she were closing watching the way Edith was driving. I remember from sitting in the back seat that there were a number of towns people that would wave to Grandmother Vann but she many times would not see them and continue looking straight ahead. - Mark

As far back as I can remember, any grandchild or great grandchild who came to see her would be given $1 from her purse. All of us were anxious to help her “find” her purse just before leaving. A dollar went a long way back then..and her pride in all of her offspring was enormous. Some of us did some things she did not approve of but were never scolded by her directly. It was often more than a scolding by the time the message got to us.
