Chasing Waterfalls

Just one county over from us is Transylvania County, The Land of Waterfalls.

Within Transylvania County, you have access to Pisgah National Forest (500,000 + acres) and DuPont State Forest (10,000 acres).  Pisgah lies in many counties in Western NC, whereas DuPont is shared by two counties.  The 250 waterfalls specific to Transylvania County will mostly be found in these two forests.  Incidentally, scenes from The Last of the Mohicans and Hunger Games were filmed in Pisgah and DuPont.

I took my friend and out-of-town guest Mark to Transylvania County to see a few of the key, easily accessible waterfalls.  You just can't go wrong there.  He was very impressed.  We got to see these in under a half day.  Left mid-morning, and back home by 3 PM.   Probably walked 3-4 miles.  Took some sandwiches and some drinks, and just enjoyed nature.

Although I love the convenience and quality of a smart phone digital camera, our new camcorder is exceptionally better.  That's what I used here.  The abundance of rain we'd had made the falls very beautiful, and powerful.
