Craggy Gardens

Yesterday, a little after 4 PM, Kade and I drove up on the Parkway.  After stopping for about thirty minutes at the Folk Art Center to look over beautiful handicrafts made in the Southern Highlands, we drove on north, about 20 miles, to the Craggy Gardens Visitor Center.  We got our backpack ready, making sure we had all the provisions we needed - water, snacks, sunblock, hats, guidebooks, etc..  Then we found the trailhead to Craggy Gardens Trail, and started our hike.  It was going to be 2.5 miles roundtrip.  Our goal was to complete the hike in plenty of time to make it back to the visitor center parking lot to experience the sunset, which is a main reason people come to Craggy Gardens.  Below are a couple of videos I made of our adventure.  The images are some Kade made with her Android smartphone.  The weather and the sky, and just the overall condition of the trail, could not have been more ideal.  We made it home by 9 PM.

“Mountains, according to the angle of view, the season, the time of day, the beholder's frame of mind, or any one thing, can effectively change their appearance. Thus, it is essential to recognize that we can never know more than one side, one small aspect of a mountain.”
Haruki Murakami, A Wild Sheep Chase

This is the book I am using these days.
