And L.A. also has a Thai town, with the largest number of Thais living outside of Thailand - bigger than the population of Dothan, AL. Therefore, L.A. is sometimes referred to by Thais (jokingly, of course) as Thailand's 78th province. In 2008, Thai Town received a 'Preserve America' federal grant - selected by First Lady Laura Bush - "signifying its value as a cultural and historic asset." You can read about it here.
