Deep Gap Trail

“The mountains were his masters. They rimmed in life. They were the cup of reality, beyond growth, beyond struggle and death. They were his absolute unity in the midst of eternal change.”
Thomas Wolfe, Look Homeward, Angel

Three of us (including me) hiked from Mount Mitchell, along the Deep Gap Trail, to Cattail Peak and back - 6 strenuous miles.  Two made it all the way to Deep Gap and back - 8.6 strenuous miles.

The two photos above are the property of this blog.  Go to the site to learn more about The Black Mountains.

And check out these two fabulous images taken by Mark Schmidt.  This is from the Mount Mitchell parking lot where we got on Deep Gap Trail.  In the distance, in silhouette, is Table Rock, where I am going on Friday with a couple of hikers.
