One thing can be said about Uncle Watty (Watt Espy): He was a voracious reader. This series of books might have been the first he ever received - given to him by his father.
Uncle Watty collected books over the years and gave them out as gifts to his nieces and nephews.
In time I will add a scan of a journal writing where a young Watt Espy (in his thirties) describes his personal library - the variety of genres and the sheer number he had amassed. He was very proud of it.
