Kade and I set out last night to get a quick meal before heading to the Catawba Brewery Co. Asheville tasting room for a post Beer City funk jam. However, we got a little bit sidetracked, in a good way. We arrived at The Barleycorn in West Asheville to have our meal. Halfway into it, everything was just so good, we decided it was smart idea to drink a craft beer there and order several things, with the idea that we could sample what we desired and simply box up leftovers. And we did! We ended up ordering a Buttermilk Wedge Salad, Award-Winning Wings, PEI Mussels, a Lamb Kebab, and a Mexican Chocolate Stout & Raspberry Orange Trifle. And because the idea in truly going out was to support a local brewery, we tried a bartender-recommended Uproot ESB by Twin Leaf Brewery - on tap at The Barleycorn. It was perfect! And Barleycorn really impressed us overall. Salads seem very basic, but if a restaurant can create one that's cool, crisp and very fresh, it makes me happy and makes a lasting impression. I think their Buttermilk Wedge Salad is about the best in town.

Later on that evening, we did actually drive by the Catawba Brewing Co. tasting room in the Biltmore Village. I let down my window and heard some funk as we drove slowly by. Surely someday we will pay them a proper visit!
