The Highlands of Roan

After hiking Roan Mountain last year, I knew that Kade had to experience it.  To change it up a tad, I wanted this adventure to be more of a sunset hike.  The weather couldn't have been better.  We started at Carver's Gap and then hiked up to Grassy Ridge Bald.  Up on Grassy Ridge Bald, we met a hiker from Columbus, GA who was there to shoot images of the sunset.  He had all the photography gear and everything, and seemed to be fascinated with the outdoors.  I may get his permission to share some of his images a bit later.  The hike was right around 5 miles (out and back), but would have been the equivalent 12 miles in the city, on a flatter surface.  We were sore for a few days!  The big draw to Roan Highlands this time of year is to see the Rhododendrons.  Hope you enjoy our video and images.  For my experience last year, click here
