This mural was painted by a European who arrived in Tupelo to do a tribute mural. It's impressive overall, but the nose is a bit weird. The hair is amazing, though!
There are about 25 guitars like this around Tupelo, making up the Elvis Guitar Trail. They point you in the right direction, and give you some fun facts about The King.
There are at least five Elvis murals in Tupelo that are part of the Off The Wall mural project (about 15 murals) that teach you about Tupelo's color history. Stop by the Tupelo Visitors Center to learn more.
We drove the 12 minutes outside of town to see the mural. What I didn't expect was to discover some of the best barbecue I've eaten. Over a period of 16 days through barbecue country (South Alabama to Central Alabama to Tupelo), we ate at two very well-known barbecue spots (Lannie's in Selma and Dreamland in Tuscaloosa), plus this one I had never heard of. Lannie's and iconic Dreamland lived up to their reputations, no doubt. But King Chicken was the best! We are even considering driving through Tupelo next year en route to Memphis, simply to try King Chicken again. And the owners/ management or employees of King Chicken - the ones we dealt with - were super kind.
If you go on a Thursday or Friday, you can get their special Rib Tips. Very delicious!
