We woke up to this view from The Island Inn on Monhegan Island.
See The Island Inn through there?
In the distance, you can see the lighthouse and cemetery we explored yesterday.
better view of the lighthouse and cemetery
This is the trail we were looking for. We wanted to take advantage of the gorgeous morning.
Once back down the mountain, we had a view of Birders and the lighthouse.
Trying!
This is from the from porch of the Island Inn. Our boat is down there. Time to head for the mainland.
Ah, the lighthouse was where Forrest Gump ended his run after his mother died. He ran from the Santa Monica Pier to the Marshall Lighhouse. A litte interesting factoid: I am from small-town Alabama and the summer Forrest Gump was released, I watched it in a cinema in Los Angeles, CA.
We then drove on towards Rockland, Maine. We stopped off at Owls Head State Park & Lighthouse.
After parking our car, we walked up a path to the lighthouse. Check out this beach view!
We keep checking off the lighthouses!
We arrived in Rockland, our base #2. This was the amazing view from the backyard of our Airbnb.
That's the Marshall Point Lighthouse - painted by our Airbnb host.
We drove into town for dinner. There's one thing I like more than murals: oysters!
We made a reservation at North Beacon Oyster. I would advise it.
I think the oysters were very good. I tried a couple of new varieties. The only thing I didn't like about the experience was the oyster shucker had a wide variety of restaurant duties, it seemed. I like people focused on one task (or perhaps a couple!), especially when it comes to handling raw seafood. I still recommend North Beacon Oyster. Service was really good and the menu had a lot of variety. Besides the oysters, we enjoyed the crispy calamari, mussels (Thai red curry broth) and fish & chips.
