Keeping Bears Safe

Click here to learn how the bear got a plastic jug stuck on its head.

My hiking meetup actually called in the tip.  But the real credit goes to home construction workers who had spotted the distressed bear.  As our group was walking up a road, I decided to ask the workers if they had seen the bear.  And, yes, they had actually seen it thirty minutes earlier.  We then called the number (Save The Bears) and that's how wildlife officials learned of the bear's location.

The biggest lesson we should all learn is that securing our garbage before just placing it out by the road or in a dumpster is BearWise.  Bears, like many animals, are naturally curious and hungry.  Why leave open containers, sharp objects and things like poisons in a manner that could harm bears?!
