Headland, Alabama
When I was in the 5th grade, a friend (Eric Baxley) and I were selected to raise and take down the US and Alabama flags. The pole was on the grounds of the Headland Elementary School. We'd go out in the morning during homeroom to raise the flags, then at some point in the afternoon we'd go out and lower them. Of course, there were proper procedures for handling the flag - at least the USA 🇺🇸 flag - and we always did our best. For example, the flag was not to touch the ground. We took great pride in performing this duty, and on our way to the cafeteria, when we'd have to go outside, I would look over at it. On a good day, the flags were flapping in the wind.
