A Pilgrimage

Mark Carroll Espy
Marion Military Institute
1963

Kade and I took a pilgrimage to Marion, Alabama to see what Marion Military Institute (MMI) looks like today.  We drove from the state capital Montgomery, through historic Selma.  My first time ever in Marion!  The next several images were taken with a Nikon 5600.

Take note of the viewing stands and open field in front of it.  It's where MMI graduations are held - among other things.

This is looking back at that open area - the stands are out of picture to the right.

This is one of the older buildings on the campus.  I think it's a dorm for incoming cadets, plus has a cafeteria.  My dad would have lived and eaten here.

The entrance to the old football stadium.  I don't think there's even a football team now.  Stadium is used more for the track, other sports and exercise.

This is back at the viewing stands, near the entrance to the campus.  Not the football field.

And then we drove to Judson College, just three minutes away.  Somebody else we knew lived and studied in Marion.  Let's check out Judson.

Both MMI and Judson College had small to medium-sized campuses.  There were other buildings and areas we didn't get a chance to explore or photograph due to lack of time.  Plus, it was so hot.  We noticed, too, that visitors were not allowed access to buildings because of Covid-19.

And then these were all taken with a smartphone.  Less zooming ability.

Our next stop was going to be Tuscaloosa.  Dreamland BBQ was on our minds!
