X Marks The Spot

That's where a young Elvis Presley stood, with his mother Gladys by his side.  It was just two days before Elvis' 11th birthday, and she brought him to Tupelo Hardware to pick out a birthday gift.  He had his mind on a bicycle in the window display, but then saw a 22-caliber rifle that made him more excited.  Let this couple tell you what happened next.  (See the Elvis doll?  It's ours.  Handmade in Porto, Portugal.)

Tupelo Hardware

After leaving Tupelo Hardware, we made our way to the site of the former Tupelo Fairgrounds.  It was just across the road, and down a bit.

This is a cute reenactment of that day.

Elvis' first recorded song, That's All Right (Mama)
