We drove up to Old Orchard Beach. After looking around a bit, we continued south through Cape Porpoise, then on to Kennebunkport.
Old Orchard Beach appeared to be closed for the season - the amusement park and some of the shops anyway. Might have been because it was a weekday. We did manage to find a homemade sweets shop. We got some cotton candy and several types of fudge. In comparison to York and Ogunquit, Old Orchard Beach was a bit on the tacky, kinda Coney Island mixed with Myrtle Beach side. But for families with young kids, it's probably where you want to be.
On the way to Kennebunkport, we stopped off at a little store in Cape Porpoise. We bought some blueberry jam. A man who worked there (could have been the owner) asked where we were from. He said he had gone to a horse show in Tryon, NC - an hour south of Asheville. Said he wants to return, it's so beautiful.
This statue was in a Kennebunkport square where we parked.
One of the things we came for!
The clams were good, but the lobster roll might have been the worst of the trip. The more you talk with locals, the more you understand that the shacks where tourists go are not always the best. They may just be in great locations, and have superb marketing. The prices, too, were a bit outrageous for what you get. And that probably applies to everything in Kennebunkport.
Had to photograph this ice cream. I think we got this flavor and one more - two scoops - for almost $13.
That's the Bush family compound on Walkers Point in Kennebunkport. In all, it was about a six-mile walk. Loved it. Weather was very Mainey - pleasant Fall breeze and temp.
A young lady walking her big, beautiful dog (Blue Lady) talked with us while we were photographing the Bush house. She grew up in Connecticut, lived a bit in South Florida and Texas, and now lives in Portland, ME. She seemed very interested in talking with us.
In this cool little gift shop, the manager said she's retiring soon, and has already bought a home in Charleston, SC.. She's craving some warm weather!
