Driving North to Boothbay Harbor

Nothing signals Fall like a leaf stuck to your car window!  We left in the morning.  Had a fabulous time in York, and all of coastal Southern Maine.

Had a few stops to make as we drove up the coast.  We stopped at Wells Beach for a quick peek before moving on to Rachel Carson National Wildlife Refuge.

Along the nature trail there were several viewing platforms.  While we taking some photos and enjoying the scenery at one, we met an older couple from rural Pennsylvania.  They summer (yes, summer) in the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and really enjoy it.  Had quite a long talk with them!

We hiked the easy trail at Rachel Carson Wildlife Refuge.  For those fortunate to live nearby, this place is a real gem.

In Scarborough, just south of Cape Elizabeth, we drove past the Black Point Inn to a cul-de-sac.  Since we weren't supposed to park, I put the hazards on and left Kade in the car while I walked out a bit on Cliff Walk at Prouts Neck.  I only had time for a quick glimpse.  While I was walking back, the police showed up and told Kade that we needed to move along.  Not sure how we can work in this hike, and the one nearby on Western Beach.  Will have to give it some thought.  Certainly very beautiful, and we can say we have seen it anyway.

The two images above are of Crescent Beach at Crescent Beach State Park.  I had just read on a website that some consider it the prettiest beach in Maine.  We enjoyed walking up and down it.

Two Lights State Park

The Lobster Shack at Two Lights was closed for the season.  Still, you could walk out to the rocks.  Stunningly beautiful.

While hanging out on the rocks, I talked with a couple from Virginia - a rural area a bit north of Charlottesville.  They have an RV that they drive all over.  They said they love Asheville, especially the Biltmore.  I talked about our wonderful eating experiences in Maine.  They said they appreciated my lobster roll tips!

After Two Lights, we drove on to Portland Head Light.  On the grounds are a couple of lobster shacks.  We had wanted to go to this one, but concluded that the wait wasn't worth it.  We ended up jumping out of line.  We had places to be!

Once we finished up at Portland Head Light, we drove through South Portland.  Found a unique viewpoint of the city.

This restaurant gets a lot of customers, and the location is really gorgeous.  We were actually hungry, and were anticipating an incredible experience.  But unfortunately, we thought the food was below average.  That's part of traveling.

At this board, I was pointing out Headland, Alabama as my hometown, when a man saw me and mentioned his travels around the South.  He was from Finger Lakes, New York.  He was particularly fond of New Orleans.  "They really know how to do seafood down there," he said.

From our table, Kade looked up and said, "That moose is wearing a mask."  "Uh, Kade, that's a buffalo."

Everybody has heard of this place in Wiscaset.  The line was even longer.  We kept on driving to Boothbay Harbor - an hour and 20 minutes north of Portland.

Arrived at Boothbay Harbor.  This is where we're staying.

We drove around Boothbay Harbor after checking in.   What's funny is that we found the food shack my cousin told me to be sure to try.  Unfortunately, they were closing up for the season on the night we arrived, and we were already full.
