Exploring Boothbay Harbor

We started our morning by walking up to the Spruce Point Inn.  We then walked back down, crossed the footbridge and explored more of the town.  We were looking for a spot to return to for dinner.  And we found it!  Mine Oyster.  It's one of the places I had researched months earlier.

We woke up fairly early to start our walk up to the Spruce Point Inn.  Had a pleasant chat with the neighbor across the road.  She shared that she lived in Costa Rica and Panama for a total of 8 years, and prior to that San Francisco, where she spent most of her life.  Now she calls Boothbay Harbor home!  Always nice to learn about people and the journeys they've been on.

Outside Mine Oyster, I talked with the manager about the oyster selection.  We ended up talking quite a bit about oysters.  He said that Maine's oysters are even better than Canada's.  Said it has to do with rivers being more ideal for growing them than bays, and colder water being most desirable.  The rivers of Maine have colder water than Canada's bays.  He said the country's leading expert on oysters sometimes gives talks at Mine Oyster.   I told him we'd back for dinner.  We lived up to our word!

We had lunch at Trevett Country Store.  I asked our airbnb host for a place where locals would go for lobster rolls.  She recommended this spot.

We got lobster and crab rolls!

These are Kade's Nikon images from the day

We sat out on the deck at Mine Oyster.  What a view!

I think I added three new varieties to my overall total!

The calamari was delicious.  We got calamari a few different times on our trip.  Never disappointed.  And although I don't have a good photo to share, we also ordered a tasty lobster pizza.

We stayed in that area.

On that far side, walking left to right towards the Spruce Point Inn, we enjoyed the lovely scenery.

Lovely Kade!

We sat near another Atlanta couple.  They are returning to the Windjammer Festival in Boothbay Harbor next June.  Also, talked with a Texas couple who traveled all over, including to Poland and Latvia.  They were sampling some oysters.  And then there was as older South Carolina couple who drove up.  Their plan was to continue on up to Canada.

Our waitress was from Moldova (former USSR).  She talked about all the Russians traveling everywhere, buying up this and that, and how pop stars and celebrities of Eastern Europe are always posting of their trips to Thailand.  I invited her to come see us in Asheville!
