Quite Impressive

Ray's Ramblings
The Wiregrass Farmer
June 12, 1958

Ray's Ramblings was a weekly column in the newspaper The Wiregrass Farmer, which was published in Headland, Alabama from 1917-1968.  Grover Ray was the writer, and was a mayor of the town at one time.

Three personal libraries in Headland, Alabama:  The Roby J. Lees' (Aunt Sarah Frances Espy), M.W. Espy, Jr.'s (Watty) and Mayor Jack Bridges'.

The use of the title "Colonel" by the columnist was a bit of a joke.  Watty was no colonel that I'm aware of.....but he was a Major (his actual first name).  Watty was 25 at the time.  It was the same year he ran for state senate.

"Quite impressive!"

Notice the early interest in Criminology.  This was almost fifteen years before he really got going on his capital punishment research.
