The "Little Train" That Could

photos we took of Lionel James at the 1984 Sugar Bowl team practice

When my sister and I were with my dad at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans (1984), I wandered upstairs in the Auburn hotel.  I asked around and found Bo Jackson's room.  I knocked on the door and he stepped out in his bathrobe.  I was in shock (starstruck, you could say) to be talking with him.  Dad came up and could not believe that I was talking with Bo.  He also was excited!  Bo kept the room door propped open with his leg, and there was singing coming from the inside.  Bo said Lionel James was singing in the shower.  Kid you not.  #34 Bo Jackson and #6 Lionel James, not only were in the same backfield together, they were best friends.  When Auburn beat Michigan 9-7 on a last second field goal, Bo and Lionel walked off the field together, side by side, with their arms around each other.  It was Lionel's final season.  Bo was two years younger.  Bo won the player of the game trophy, but said he wanted to share it with his best friend.

Here are two drinks I made in memory of "Little Train" James!

This was our second time making it.  Just as good as the first time!

This is the second type Empress Martini we have made.  Liked this one best!
