Day #2

our rental car + historic home across the road from our Airbnb

where we ate dinner last night

history of our Airbnb

road we're taking today to get to Pemaquid Point

Damariscotta is a charming town.

Barn Door Baking Co. is in that building.  I was hoping to get some pumpkin cinnamon rolls like we got last year.  Didn't have any!

I have a cousin in Atlanta who loves owls.  Anytime I see an owl (real or toy), I text her a photo.

The historic buildings along Main St. in Damariscotta.

Although they only served Pemaquid oysters, the Pemaquids were exceptional, and the overall experience was amazing.  While I was eating them, I thought, "This is a once-in-a-lifetime moment."  Whoever lives within thirty minutes of this place is very lucky.

Looks like we might be the first customers!

We loved talking with Smoky.  He shucked my oysters, and his wife prepared the other delicious dishes.

Smoky is well-known in these parts.

This is a river cruise we thought about going on last year.

Maybe we should have bought one!

Got one super jumbo to with the cocktails and selects.

When Smoky saw how happy I was, he searched for a super jumbo to serve me.  Thanks, Smoky.

I ate the Super Jumbo.  It tasted like the others, but it was a little bit overwhelming.  I much prefer the selects (medium-sized).

The tuna, dip, grilled shrimp and the bread....WOW.

The seafood stew was super good.

By the time we were preparing to leave, The Hub was getting busier.

I like Fall strolls on the beaches up here.  The best part is that you don't have to change into beach attire.

Pemaquid Point Lighthouse

Over to the right, in the distance, is Monhegan Island, where we were going to be staying a night.

Always respect water, and nature in general.

A bear fixation?

See anything?

Shaw's Fish & Lobster Wharf's parking lot was full.  We had already made a decision, though, to go to Muscongus Bay Lobster Co.  I kept hearing from locals that it was better.

The salt pond preserve was a nice stopover on the way to get lobster rolls.  We parked and then walked down for a view.

We chuckled at the tiny amount of lobster meat.  And to be honest, the meat was a bit chewy.

We liked this better.  Those are clams in that bag.  In the mug is a broth to dip the clams in before eating them.

Can't beat the view!
