James and Rhoda Carroll lived in Johnston County, North Carolina. A couple of years after James died, Rhoda migrated to Dale County, Alabama with several of her adult children. This was in 1836. It was James Carroll (Jr.) who was a Major for a Dale County (AL) militia in the Indian wars. And when he had a son, he named him Major.
Rhoda's father was Solomon Stephenson, Jr.. He and his father, Solomon Stephenson, Sr., were Revolutionary War patriots.
