When the Headland National Bank was formed in July 1933, M.W. Espy was named executive vice president. His father, J.J. Espy, was president. Then, in November 1934, after the sudden death of J.J. Espy, M.W. Espy became the new president of the bank. He was the youngest bank president in the state of Alabama.
