Carl Espy, Sr.

Albert Carlyle "Carl" Espy, Sr.
1875 - 1951

Carl was born in Henry County, Alabama.  His father, Joseph Samuel Espy, and my gg-grandfather, Thomas Franklin Espy, were brothers.  Carl and J.J. Espy, Sr., my great-grandfather, were first cousins.

Carl Espy, Sr. led a fascinating life.

That's the Kelly building, bottom left, where the Espy Cotton Company offices were located.  Carl also had an office for Espy Paving & Construction Company (later Espy Construction Co.) in that same historic building.  Today, the Kelly building goes by another name: the Thomas Gamble Building.

This was Carl Espy's Savannah home.

Watch this video to see a better view of the home.  It should start at 3:05.  Watch until 7:25, then continue reading the blog.
