Mills B. Lane, Jr. was instrumental in bringing professional sports to Atlanta, and C&S financed the design and construction of Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium.
The Lane family has a long and storied history in banking. Mills B. Lane, Jr.'s grandfather (Edward W. Lane, Sr.) organized the Merchants Bank of Valdosta (Georgia) and his father (Mills B. Lane, Sr.) established Citizens and Southern Bank in Savannah. His uncle (Edward W. Lane, Jr.) helped start Atlantic National Bank in Jacksonville, Florida.
