This is a message I sent to a relative in April 2020. We had been talking about tornadoes, and I had shared I hadn't heard of any up here. He then asked about earthquakes and forest fires.
There was a forest fire last year up on Cold Mountain, and they burn in certain areas of the blue ridge mountains every ten years or so. Nothing close to California, certainly. Will send a photo of fire from last year in a second. No earthquakes. But hurricanes can affect us when they hit along the Atlantic coast. The French Broad River is prone to flooding. All said, I think our biggest threat is from winter storms.
Hurricane Helene hit in late September 2024. And it came up from the Gulf of Mexico (America). Humbling.
