Some Espy family items belonging to my cousin Beverly Frances Espy Dayries
John Jolly Espy, Sr and Emma Carroll Espy home on E Church St in Headland, Alabama
We're pretty confident Beverly's father J.J. Espy, Jr. (Bud John) is the boy on the pony, and her uncle Major is the boy on far right. There's a slight chance it may be the other way around. Beverly's grandparents, J.J. Espy, Sr. and Emma are definitely seated in the car. Sarah Frances Espy, their other child, is not pictured. The black couple are possibly some employees of the Espys.
This book was authored by Ella Gray Espy, sister of J.J. Espy, Sr.. It was published in 1907.
Grandmother Espy (Emma Carroll Espy)
Beverly's aunt and namesake
Dora Espy was another of J.J. Espy, Sr.'s siblings. Her full name was Dora Theodocia Espy. She went by Dora, Theo and Theodocia. Born in 1860, she was a graduate of Tuskegee Female College, and was a school teacher. Dora died in 1907, the same year her nephew Major Watt Espy (Sr.) was born.
