New Hampshire Coast

nearing New Castle, NH

Wood Island Light Saving Station (l), Whaleback Lighthouse (r)

in the direction of the Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse

I met a man from Rye who was parked near the apple tree.  We first started talking about the apples.  But after that we talked about traveling.  He was a Vietnam War veteran, and had been to the South in his military days.  Knew all the bases.  He was very nice.

Our waitress at The Franklin in Portsmouth said she enjoys lobster rolls at Ray's Seafood in Rye (down the coast a bit).  We made it there, but they were closed due to a staff shortage.

A local told us we might enjoy Petey's.

Haddock and fries & a lobster roll (mayo-based)

The mayo lobster roll was a bit underwhelming.  The lobster and butter roll (at Bob's in Kittery) made a more lasting impression.

At Petey's, we started with a clam chowder (our first).  It was very delicious.  Then we got our entrees.  We both loved the fish & chips.  And the cole slaw was easily some of the best I've ever had.  It was the sweet, mayo cole slaw, the way we do it down south.  Oh, and the tarter sauce - may seem unimportant to some - was very good.  Makes a big difference to me.

Our waitress at The Franklin also told us about Lago's Homemade Ice Cream in Rye.  She said it was the area's best!

We took home a pint of Wild Main Blueberry and a pint of Maple Walnut.

We also got a huge scoop of Pistachio - Kade's favorite flavor.

Before checking into our York, ME Airbnb, we drove along the coast up to Ogunquit.  We parked for a bit and walked on the beach.
