After assembling the necessary ingredients, we made a Sazerac, the oldest cocktail there is.
The splash on the inside of the glass is Absinthe. You use a bit to swirl it around the glass before discarding the excess. This is called "a rinse." As you're sipping the cocktail, that Absinthe is picked up and the cocktail flavor is enhanced.
I shared our Sazerac photos with my Atlanta cousin. Just like the Sazerac itself, my cousin has a New Orleans connection. Her husband's family came from there. So did the Sazerac! It just happens to be the official cocktail of New Orleans! In her reply to me, she shared a Sazarec recipe his niece had e-mailed them.
After the Sazerac, we made a Corpse Reviver No. 2. This drink is supposed to be the most famous of all Absinthe cocktails.
We really loved both of these cocktails.
