The Comanche Indians were the Mongols of the nomadic plain Indians. They had helped kick out the Spanish (late 1500s?) and while doing so scores of Spanish horses escaped into the wild. The Comanches, more than any of the plain Indians, recaptured the horses, and mastered the use of them. They were also very savage, not unlike the Mongols. They would raid other tribes and later white settlements, not thinking twice about killing women and babies. Pretty much only 8, 9 and 10 yr olds were spared, simply because the Comanches felt it could be a way to increase their #s in the short-term.
